Etta Englert, who opened the house with her husband William on 26 September 1912 — 1,071 seats, $60,000, a former livery stable — ran the rebuild after the fire and removed eight side-wall boxes of six seats each: forty-eight seats, gone. William had died in 1920, at 46. In the 1980s the auditorium went too, cut into two small movie screens. Putting things back started in 1999, when a community campaign stopped the building becoming a bar; the first live performance in more than forty years followed on 4 December 2004. A capital campaign run jointly with FilmScene paid for the 2020 restoration, which sent the marquee to Ohio and brought it home as its 1958 self, neon and all.
