About Riverside Theatre

Riverside's summer stage is not Riverside's. The Festival Stage at 200 Park Road belongs to the Parks Department, which opens it 1 May to 1 October and rents it at $75 an hour, $100 with the concession stand. It holds 472 and is modeled after the Globe, in the city's own description. Riverside had the idea for it, and has played Shakespeare there since 2000, free since 2018: no reservations, first-come, and the company's own advice is to be in a seat by 7. Ron Clark, Jody Hovland and Bruce Wheaton founded it in 1981. It works under a special affiliation with Actors' Equity and calls itself Iowa City's only professional theatre. Adam Knight is producing artistic director.
