Start with the Lakeside Path at Terry Trueblood

At Terry Trueblood Recreation Area in Iowa City, a paved, accessible path beside the lake is a useful place to start planning a visit. The path surface says more about how the afternoon may work than the park’s acreage alone.

The park at 579 McCollister Boulevard covers 152 acres. The main entrance provides accessible parking, restrooms, a playground, and three picnic shelters. A second entrance and parking area is available south of the lake through Gilbert/Sand Road and Sycamore.

The lake also has an important limitation: the city currently prohibits swimming because of low water and water-quality problems. The city parks and trails information provides the current warning.
